Aki Hoshihara

01.12.18 - 01.12.18 - 16 to 20h.

Aki Hoshihara creates intuitive abstract portraits. A casual event during which she will talk as she reads your energy, ask questions, and sometimes ask you to write words on paper. As she captures the moment of your unique expression, she will draw your portrait using sumi-ink on paper.

Aki Hoshihara is a Japan born, Los Angeles based artist with a background in traditional Japanese calligraphy and intuitive energy work (“ki” or “chi” work). She studied calligraphy as martial arts in Kagoshima Japan from the age of 5 until 17 and later studied consulting hypnosis and spirit work with various masters in NY and LA.

Miriam Laage

15.09.18 - 30.09.18

During my residency at Curtidas I was dealing with questions about what art is and what it could be or become, in which context it can change its appearance. What do artists produce? Images? Imaginations? This research process has been summarized in the publication of a zine untitled “Variation of an Experience“ released on the 30th of September 2018 at Curtidas.

The workshop DOING WORDS (on 29.09.18) focused on the potentials that are generally inherent in language. How many meanings can a word have? How can we slightly shift its meaning or play with its connotations? How does each use language differently?

Miriam Laage is an artist based in Germany. In 2018 she founded the magazine DIE ARBEIT which regularly presents young artist positions.

For the Curtidas project, Aki explored the energy of humans as beautiful spiritual beings, while talking and looking through them, finding and shining the energy that was hidden from them at the time. She chose a different color of paper inspired by each person and drew images with sumi ink and watercolor generating energy portraits of each being”.
