A place to create, research, and share
CURTIDAS is a space for divergence and convergence from where we foster the research of cultural and artistic experiences. We curate events and artistic proposals dealing with social interaction, interconnectedness, human nature, feminism and ecology, through inter- and trans- disciplinary artistic tools.
Artists in Residency share their work and creative processes from our two display windows, with the aim of opening dialogue and exchange with our local urban community.
CURTIDAS refers to a feminine someone, or something (usually skin or leather) weathered, time resistant, and resilient. Originally, the space used to be a leather shop from where ‘Curtidos’ were sold. Feminizing the space’ name is a way to state that artistic search needs to be supported and seen as a way of caring resistance.
Lydia Lake is the artist and filmmaker who curates the AiRs and events. Her desire is to create human community and connectedness, as she understands any artistic process as the unfinished/unending search for resonance with the world, expressed in physical, mental, and emotional movement. She invites artists, researchers, inventors, and scientists from all disciplines to join the common effort of self-expression and discovery.
Since 2022, Curtidas shares mission with sister space CasCaDas, run by Fiona Fell. Together we join to experiment with, and co-create, artistic experiences.
